GISS has been quite the experience. I have been able to try out new things and expand my skills because I am involved in tasks that I haven't done before. One of the biggest challenges I've had while working on all the items displayed below is the fact that I am working with a group of completely new people, many of whom I had never talked to previously. I think the biggest hurdle to overcome was the different leadership styles that exist in my committee as well as in the entire team. What I've noticed is that when it comes to executing a big event I try to be extremely pragmatic and poke holes at my plan before I execute anything. On the other hand, there are a few of my fellow comrades that would rather get to it, and fill in the holes as they come up. In the beginning it was quite hard to co-ordinate with the different leadership styles, because I'd inherently think that my way of doing things was the most effective. However, as times went on I learned that both strategies were effective and that it was absolutely essential that as a leader I was ready to set down when need be. Working with and within different comities had definitely developed my collaborative skills. Over time, I feel like the GISS team is coming together and connecting with each other as the event become more tangible and real.
